What are balloons made of?
There are basically three types of balloons; foil, plastic and latex balloons. The foil balloons (sometimes referred to as mylar), are a bladder made of nylon that is covered with a layer of aluminium that is 0.0015 of an inch thick. Latex balloons are made from the sap of rubber trees.
How do I dispose of my balloons responsibly?
NABAS has partnered with Terracycle to make recycling boxes available to all our members at a heavily discounted rate. These boxes take all kinds of balloon and party waste which has been traditionally hard to recycle, and turns it into a secondary material which is used to make products such as play equipment.
If your local balloon decorator doesn’t have one of these ‘Holiday Decorations and Party Supplies Zero Waste’ boxes, they are also available to buy directly from the Terracycle website.
